Affordable Care Act (ACA)
In need of a Marketplace®/ACA plan? You may qualify for subsidized health insurance based on your income and household size. This is a self service method where you can sign up for insurance by yourself without contacting an agent or agency if you feel you can complete the process alone.
As referenced from HealthCare.gov:
The comprehensive health care reform law was enacted in March 2010.
The law has 3 primary goals:
1. Make affordable health insurance available to more people. The law provides consumers with subsidies (the “premium tax credit”) that lower costs for households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
- If your income is above 400% FPL, you may still qualify for the premium tax credit.
- If your income is at or below 150% FPL, you may qualify to enroll in or change Marketplace coverage through a Special Enrollment Period.
2. Expand Medicaid to cover all adults with income below 138% of the FPL. (Not all states have expanded their Medicaid programs.)
3. Support innovative medical care delivery methods designed to lower the costs of health care generally.

Tips about the Health Insurance Marketplace®
If you don't have health insurance through a job, Medicare, Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or another source that provides qualifying health coverage, you can find coverage through the Marketplace.
Who can get Marketplace® coverage?
To be eligible to enroll in Marketplace health coverage, you must live in the United States, be a U.S. citizen or national (or be lawfully present), and not be incarcerated. Get more details about eligibility.
1. Open Enrollment is November 1-January 15
- Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1
- Enroll by January 15 for coverage that starts February 1
2. Outside the yearly Open Enrollment, you can get coverage or change plans only if you:
- Have a life change or income that qualifies for a Special Enrollment Period.
- Qualify for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). You can enroll any time of year and coverage can start immediately. Learn more about these programs.
3. All Marketplace® plans cover:
- 10 essential health benefits, including prescription drugs, emergency services, hospitalization, laboratory services, and mental health and substance use disorder services
- Free preventive health services at no cost to you when delivered by a doctor or provider in your plan's network
- Coverage for pre-existing conditions
4. Don't forget to pay your monthly premium
When you have Marketplace® insurance, you'll pay your monthly premiums directly to the insurance company — not to the Marketplace®. Your coverage won't start until you pay your first premium. Get more information on completing your enrollment.
